Brussels Beer City at 3 years // Where should we go next?
Hi there,
It’s been quiet here at Brussels Beer City the past month or so. Too quiet…There are several reasons for that, including the final preparations for the launch of the Brussels Beer City book in early October (pre-order now!), paralysing anxiety caused by the world outside my front door, and attendant writer’s block and a lack of energy for generating new ideas and articles. Also, I launched a podcast, so there was that too…
The book is more or less ready for the printers, and there are indications that the general malaise is gradually lifting, so hopefully the more regular drip-drip-drip of content (at least an article a month, and hopefully more) will resume in September.
I have some ideas for upcoming articles - having received a little feedback on Twitter about what readers have liked about Brussels Beer City in the three years of its existence. But, taking inspiration from US beer writer Jeff Alworth, I want to hear from more readers, to understand what you have liked (nor disliked) and what you would like to see more of on the blog for the coming 12 months.
More brewery profiles? More beer history? More personal stories? Bar sketches? Anything you’d like to see, and would like to read, let me know - except beer reviews!
Now, while Jeff put together a whole survey for his readers, I’m less ambitious. I’ve included a contact form below where you can send me your ideas, or if you’d prefer you can always email them to me.
It’s been a hard couple of months for me, and I’ve gotten off relatively easy compared to the people working at the frontline of the pandemic, and those that have lost their jobs or their loved ones. Writing about beer may seem insubstantial, an irrelevant distraction better suited to more frivolous times - but, i’m sure I’m not the only one out there who could do with a little frivolity right now.
So, let me know what you think, keep reading (buy the book!), keep listening, and we’ll hopefully see each other on the other side of all this.
