Brussels Beer City is a blog about Brussels and its beer culture. This is not an industry blog. Nor is it a beer review site.
Eoghan Walsh founded Brussels Beer City in 2017, and has since gone on to be named Brewdog’s Best European Beer Blogger 2018, British Guild of Beer Writers Young Beer Writer of 2018, and has been awarded silver and bronze medals by the North American Guild of Beer Writers for his writing at Brussels Beer City and Belgian Beer and Food Magazine.
His work has also been featured in The Irish Times, The Guardian, and in local Brussels media Bruzz and Brusselblogt. Eoghan successfully studied to become a Zytholoog (a Belgian beer sommelier) at Syntra Brussels, has taken part as a judge in the Brussels Beer Challenge, and organises the semi-regular Brussels Bottleshare in conjunction with Fermenthings. In his day job, he runs communications for German development NGO working on sexual health.
Eoghan: “I've lived in Brussels for almost a decade now, and like most people who have stuck around for that length of time, I have developed an affinity not only for the city but for beer.
“What this means is that I want to write about the city’s broader relationship with beer and brewing – its past present, and future; the architectural legacy that brewing has given the city – from its breweries to its bars, cafes and estaminets; the history of beer in Brussels, where it has come from, where it is now, and where it looks to be going.”
